Dinner date meme, putting happy looks on their face with masks even though they are sad:

This meme is symbolic because is the ongoing use of language and gestures in anticipation of how the other will react. This picture relates to symbolic interactionism because the two are on a date or at dinner and they are putting happy looks on their face with masks and they are trying to look ideal at the moment - even though they do not truly feel that way according to their actual faces. The adjustments of mood the mask make help the interaction between the two using gestures based on the wanted perception for that kind of occasion. This is significant because I feel like this image portrays common first dates or blind dates on this day. In real life, people get set up on blind dates or first dates, and even if it goes bad they put on a happy face and act like they are having a good time just to go home and delete the other person's number. Sometimes we are not happy but we still smile and say we are good. I choose this artifact because I thought the cartoon was relevant and super intriguing in connection to this assignment. This meme is the 21st-century date. And this meme satisfies some of the aesthetic and contextual 'requirements' outlined by Bratich because this meme is about actual people, and this can be related to real-life. Unlike many other memes that are based on taking an image and turning its meaning around this meme can't do that. The meaning of this meme is important and relevant. Also, this meme has a unique meaning because it is aiming at the next generation of dates on how it could evolve and get out of hand just like the meme. (It is holding their faces to hide their actual feelings.
